Thematic Working Groups
AWCSG has two Thematic Working Groups. These focus on important areas of the approach that the group takes to conserving Asian wild cattle species; Action Planning and Captive Breeding.
Action Planning Working Group
It is important to identify the highest priorities and most urgent actions needed for to conserve Asian wild cattle species. This allows governments and other conservation practitioners to be most effective in their work.
The Action Planning Working Group has the role to achieve this for these species. This group uses the Participatory Conservation Planning approach to best engage stakeholders in the prioritisation and decision-making process. The aims of the working group are:

Captive Breeding Working Group
The AWCSG recognises that captive breeding is a vital tool for Asian wild cattle conservation. The role of this Working Group is to ensure that ex situ activities are an integral part of AWCSG’s planning and implementation, where relevant. This is called the One Plan Approach to conservation.
The aims of the working group are:
The Captive Breeding Working Group is strongly involved with the activities of the Saola Working Group and also the Action Indonesia GSMPs.
